Of inverted breakfront form, the uprights surmounted by models of recumbent lions and applied with relief cast mounts to the front depicting cherubs on nimbi, the rail (damaged) pierced with bands of Greek key ornament flanking intersecting ovals

Lot Essay

The lions on the present fender are of a related design to those of Thomas Hope in his Household Furniture and Decoration (1807). A fender designed by Hope with similar recumbent lions may be seen in plate 17.
