A similar sketch, no. 18 illustrated, and 'Orpheus. Unfinished', no.29 illustrated, painted in 1898-9, were exhibited at Burlington Fine Arts Club, Exhibition of Pictures and Sketches by Charles Wellington Furse A.R.A, 1906, lent by Mrs. Charles Furse.
Reference is made to the scheme of Orpheus in letters from Charles Wellington Furse to Dame Katharine Furse published in her book Hearts and Pomegranates, 1940, p.190.
