Lot Essay

The initial m inscribed on these pieces refers to the ceramicist
André Metthey. In 1907, Metthey opened his studio at Asnières, near Paris to the painters he had met through the dealer Ambroise Vollard. Many distinguished painters such as Derain, Vlaminck, Luce and Rouault worked on ceramics with Metthey's assistance from 1907-1909
