A Chinese cloisonne and gilt-bronze ewer and cover
in the form of a mythical beast, with two horns and dragon-head handle, the cover decorated with scale-pattern, the body decorated with bands of scrolling flowers above petals and scrolling and key-fret borders, on powder blue and turquoise grounds -- 5¾.in (14.5cm) long, Qianlong four-character mark and of the period.

Provenance: Previously directly inherited from General Charles Gordon (1833-1885), probably from the Summer Palace. Previously sold at Christies King St, December 1995, lot 2.
