Lot Essay

Finger ring altitude-measuring dials of this type in gold are rare, and this example was probably made for a wealthy client, as malachite was an expensive stone during this period. The use of malachite also suggests that it was made in the Augsburg area where malachite was mined, as would the style of engraving.
