A late 17th/early 18th-Century silver and gilt equinoctial compass sundial,
signed Johann Martin In Augspurg 48, the folding silver hour ring graduated III - XII - IX with spring-loaded, folding gnomon, running against the brass latitude arc graduated [10°] - 90°, the octagonal silver base plate listing the latitudes of Vienna and London, with spring-loaded, pierced and engraved gilt plummet frame with silver plummet, the silver compass rose divided into 5° intervals with an arrow marking magnetic North about 9° West of true North, and a brass-capped, blued-steel needle, the underside with three brass feet, the compass base engraved with the names and latitudes of 24 European cities -- 2in. (5.1cm.) long
