Details
A rare single-comb Forte Piano Mandoline musical box,
No. 4590, playing four airs, in grained case with endflap and rosewood-veneered lid with brass stringing, central brass and enamel cartouche and (restored) tune-sheet -- 20¼in. (51cm.) wide, the cylinder 13in. (33cm.)

Lot Essay

The mandoline teeth are in groups of up to eight; the bass teeth have distinctly raked tips. Despite the complication of two different pin lengths, the cylinder has the appearance of having been re-pinned. The forte piano effect is well pronounced.
