Lot Essay

That this is an early lever-wind design is shown by close examination of the left-hand end of the case, which although fixed and covered with a single piece of veneer, was clearly adapted from an endflap design. The winding lever has a flat top, cranked to the right to save space. The three controls are mounted on a brass rail at the right hand end as normal, and the filled grooves for a key-compartment divider are just visible in the front and back.
