Lot Essay

The album includes a mixture of domestic animals native to Europe (taureau du Cotantin [France], le lapin, la brebis) and wild animals from around the world (l'ours blanc terrestre, le linx du Canada, l'hippopotame, l'Elan d'Afrique), many of the latter images presumably copied from earlier printed 'bestiaries'.
