Bridge over the River Barna, Benares

This view probably shows the 18th-century bridge across the river Barna, designed by Col. John Garston. The bridge crossed the river near the Cantonment area where the majority of the Europeans lived. Benares is now called Varanasi. See lots 216-220 for further views of the city.
