This picture is a copy of an earlier composition by the celebrated marine painter, Thomas Luny (1759-1837) and was undoubtedly taken from the print published by Dukes in 1785. Another larger copy on canvas is in the collection of the Hongkong Shanghai Bank (see G.H.R.Tillotson, Fan Kwae Pictures, 1987, p. 81, no. 92).
