Lot Essay

John Lillyman Caldwell served with the engineers from 1788 and became a Major General in 1837. His Sketch View of the Country from the top of Anchitty Droog about 13 Miles nearly S of Assoor. 1791. is found in an album formed by Colin Mackenzie, a fellow engineer and Surveyor General of India between 1817-1821, now in the India Office Library, see M. Archer, British Drawings in the India Office Library, vol. II, p. 510, no. 757.
