Lot Essay

Alfred Edward Emslie is best known as a portrait painter. His Dinner at Haddo House, in which many of the late 19th century's leading political figures are depicted, is in the National Portrait Gallery. He exhibited at the Royal Academy as well at the Grosvenor Gallery, and also showed his watercolours at the Old and New Watercolour Societies.
