拍品專文

The picture painted circa 1885, appears to have been begun as an in situ study of the urban architecture of Ahmedabad, or possibly Lahore, executed during one of Week's expeditions to India in the 1880s, with the figures and finishing touches added upon the artist's return to his Paris studio. Executing a picture in two stages was not particularly unusual for Weeks. His great talent lay in his ability to seamlessly integrate in situ studies with figural elements derived from other studies and sketches.

This painting will be included in the catalogue raisonné being prepared by Dr. Ellen K. Morris. We are grateful to Dr. Morris for her help in preparing this catalogue entry.
