Album containing 125 albumen prints, sizes from 8 x 6 in. to 11 x 14½ in. or the reverse, several signed, titled and/or numbered in the negatives, three with photographer's blindstamp A.W. Grigson Photographer Ceylon on recto, variously mounted, titled in ink on mounts, inscribed A.H. Cook in ink on front free end, half tan morocco, ruled in gilt, g.e., folio.

Lot Essay

Views include the Elephanta Caves, Bombay; the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Connaught at Bombay, Nov. 20th 1883; 'Natives bathing in the Ganges'; two of the Taj Mahal including a large-format view, Marble Rocks at Jubbelpore; Hindu temples in Mysore and Madras, an image of the rock carvings at the Seven Pagodas, and a view of Trichinopoly; the images of Ceylon include portraits of a Singhalese fisherman, a Tamil woman, a Singhalese girl, a Kandian girl and a chief with his family, snake-charmers, views around Colombo, tree studies and a flower study; also including an old temple at Matala; a few views around Mandalay and Rangoon and miscellaneous views of Egypt and Aden.
