Lot Essay

Each escutcheon is cast with seven holes punched along the edge to facilitate hanging.

These fittings are similar to those found in the Palace of Heavenly Purity, illustrated in Daily Life in the Forbidden City, no. 324; and to several other examples illustrated by Yu Zhuoyun, Palaces of the Forbidden City, nos. 320, 323, and 234.
