A RARE BLUE AND WHITE STEM-DISH
QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN A LINE AND OF THE PERIOD

Sturdily potted, the splayed stem foot finely painted with a sinuous scaly dragon pursuing a flaming pearl, above a carp swimming in a sea of turbulent waves breaking against rocks, the steep low rim of the dish decorated on the exterior with a band of interlocking scrolls, the mark written in a line within the foot

Lot Essay

Similar Qianlong-marked stem-dishes were exhibited in S. Marchant & Son, Exhibition of Qing Mark and Period Blue and White, 11 June to 22 June 1984, Catalogue nos. 24 and 25; another two sold in Hong Kong, 29 October 1991, lot 153, and 30 April 1996, lot 437.

A stem-dish of this rare design but with a Kangxi reign mark can be found in the Illustrated Catalogue of Ch'ing Dynasty Porcelain in the National Palace Museum, pl. 15.
