A NAPOLEONIC PRISONER OF WAR MODEL OF THE AMETHYST
A fine model of this 52 gun frigate with a solid hull construction with veneer inlays along the topsides of the gun deck. The waist and rubbing strakes are painted black and the bottom is green. The deck is scored veneer with brass cannons mounted on carriages, pin and fife rails, water casks, stove pipes, two deck windlass, companionway and doghouse. Other details include two ships boats carried amidships, carved scroll work and details on the head rails, figurehead of a Roman warrior, quarter galleries, transom details of 2 lions, a classical shield, quiver and arrows, spear and shield. The masting and rigging is well done (mostly later). Mounted on a bookend veneer plinth, with a gold and black painted plaque all in a glazed case, 21 x 11 x 14.7/8in. (54 x 28.6 x 37.7cm.)
