The model is built of a wooden hull painted with black topsides, white bottom and a salmon colored waterline which indicates max. and min. load. Fixtures and other details in brass and metal, details include liferails, portholes, faux ivory decks with planking drawn in, vetilators, binnancle and wheel, ships boat, cargo hatches, companionway and other miscellaneous details. Includes original builders plate which states the model built for messrs Flower & McDonald of Dublin, by Ailsa Shipbuilding, Co., Troon, mounted in original glazed mahogany case, 59 x 5 x 13in. (150 x 12.8 x 34.4cm.), (cased dimensions).

Lot Essay

The S. S. Margeretta was a coastal packet ship carrying wool, passengers and other cargo around the British Isles, her principal dimensions were 160 ft. loa, 26 ft beam and 11ft. 9 in draft.
