The Nahlin was built for Lady Yule of the United Kingdom in 1930. Along with her American counterpart, Corsair, she was one of the largest and most graceful steam yachts ever built. The Nahlin was designed by George L. Watson and built by John Brown Shipyard. She entered service in 1930. Lady Yule was the widow of a banker with Indian interests. When her husband died she wished to travel extensively and with Nahlin her wish was granted. She cruised with Nahlin for four years traveling over 200,000 miles around the world. After this period of extensive travel Lady Yule chartered Nahlin on a reglar basis, the best known of her clients was King Edward VIII. On a cruise to the Mediterranean in 1936, shortly after becoming King. Among the guests was Mrs. Wallis Warfield Simpson, an American divorcee. It is believed that it was on this trip the King and Mrs. Simpson agreed to be married.

Lady Yule sold Nahlin in 1937 to the Romanian Government where she was used as a Royal yacht and later a school ship.

The Nahlin had a LOA of 300 feet, a Beam of 36 feet and a gross tonnage of 1,391 tons.
