Lot Essay

The lid of a large dinos now in the British Museum is adorned with a series of youths preparing to leap from their horses. The large rectangular cavity on the front shoulder of this horse suggests that it originally served a similar function. See nos. 131 and 132 in Rolley, Greek Bronzes.
