Of rectangular shape with rounded sides moulded on one side in deep relief with a crab and covered by black lacquer, and carved on the opposite side in sunken relief with the characters senshin (cleansing the mind) within a line border, all covered by red lacquer, the background black lacquer, the sides black lacquer with traces of red, signature etched into base Hakuo; in paper box affixed with paper label printed in Roman script Hakuo Iriyama and with printed seal Hakuo, titled in ink Kani (crab) kanshitsu (dry lacquer) senshin (cleansing the mind), dated 1978--10 x 7 x 1in. (25.7 x 18.3 x 2.5cm.)
