Lot Essay
Barnaba Fornasetti writes the following about the production of trays: "An aluminum sheet is pressed using proper molds (once used in wood) giving them their characteristic shape, successively a rim by hand is created...The raw piece is then painted with several undercoats on that is then made the print, almost always lithographic, obtained by hand press. The colouring is handmade...reproducing exactly the original models on paper still conserved in the Fornasetti atelier. In other [in]stances a gold or silver leaf is used, on which the print is made or the colour is obtained. Everything is fixed with two coats of transparent lacquer therefore obtaining a high polish."
