cf. Mauris, pp. 62-63, for period interior photographs of The Casino of San Remo from the early 1950s, a collaboration with Gio Ponti, where a playing-cards motif was appropriate for a gambling establishment. This theme later begat an entire series of works exploring the metaphoric "City of Cards" theme, discussed in Mauris on pp. 210-213.
