Lot Essay

Other gilt-gesso table stands with the same hoof feet were sold Sotheby's London, 11 November 1988, lot 23 and 7 July 1989, lot 27, respectively. A similar table was supplied in 1726 by John Belchier for Erddig in Wales (illustrated in R.Edwards and M.Jourdain, Georgian Cabinet-Makers, 1944, p.136, fig.31).
