Lot Essay

Raised in Ukiah, California, Grace Hudson actively sought to document her Pomoan Indian neighbors, in particular, the children. Refusing to mimic her contemporaries and depict the psychological interplay between her subjects, Hudson's interest lay in capturing the human warmth of the sitters. Boy with Fox is a depiction of the poignant relationship between the Pomoan culture and the surrounding nature, which Hudson pursued throughout her career.
