Lot Essay

A California native, Edward Borein settled in Santa Barbara in 1921 where he lived until his death in 1945. Influenced by artists such as Frederic Remington and Charles Marion Russell, Borein depicted cowboy and ranch life throughout his career. Cowboy on Bucking Horse is an exceptional example of the artist's work: it exhibits the classic Borein subject, but is unusual in its painterly technique, vibrant color and spontaneous brush-work.
