(Some browning and foxing; waterstain to the lower corner of ca. 50 leaves, light offset from pastedown to title page). Contemporary blind-tooled sheep over pasteboard, evidence of four pairs of ties, vellum pastedowns (slightly wormed) reusing leaves from a 14th-century glossed legal manuscript (neat repairs to headcaps, joints and corners, without the ties).

FIRST EDITION of Caelius Aurelianus' Latin translation of the work on chronic diseases by Soranus of Ephesus (fl. A.D. 100). Since the Greek original has been lost, this translation is of considerable importance for preserving Soranus' views and those of the methodist school of medicine. The companion to this work on chronic diseases, Soranus's treatise on acute diseases, also survives only in the translation by Caelius Aurelianus (see Norman 387).
