8o (157 x 101 mm). Woodcut title-border, several woodcut initials. (Few scattered small stains, some minor marginal staining and soiling.) Contemporary vellum (possibly recased, later endpapers). Provenance: Larens Charles, early bold signature in several places and his marginalia in a few places; some other marginalia in another early hand (some cropped).
RARE FIRST EDITION. During the sixteenth century the syphilis epidemic swept Europe, and its treatment was one of the most lucrative forms of medical practice of the day. "De Hry made a fortune from treating sypilitic patients. He recommended mercurial inunctions and guaiac internally" (Garrison-Morton). Garrison-Morton 2368; NLM/Durling 2281; Norman 1064.
