Lot Essay

The inspiration of the works of the jewellers of the Renaissance by Faberg is limited to relatively few pieces in comparison with his other sources. Here it is demonstrated with the use of table-cut diamonds in collet mounts as well as the engraved scroll and strapwork on the underside of the handle. Most of the Renaissance pieces appear to have been made by Michael Perchin, who died in 1903. A Royal Dutch presentation tray in the Renaissance style was sold by Christie's Geneva on 12 May 1980, and a gold-mounted enamel nephrite charka on 19 March 1991.
