Circular, with stamped gilt border, the field with a raised boss set with a silver-gilt radiating motif centering an enamelled coat-of-arms, apparently unmarked

Lot Essay

The arms are apparently those of Ramstein of Brislach, Switzerland

A very similar basin executed by Claude Lecomte, active in Paris between 1542 and 1581, is illustrated in Michle Bimbenet-Privat, Les orfvres parisiens de la Renaissance (1506-1620), Paris, 1992, p.268, no. 16.
