A SET OF THREE GEORGE III SILVER-GILT DESSERT BASKETS AND STANDS
Maker's mark of John Wakelin and Robert Garrard, London, 1797
The pierced and fluted oval stands resting on four bud feet, with Vitruvian scroll rim, applied with naval trophies on each side and a ribbon-tied medallion enclosing, on the larger piece, a crest above a monogram and a coat-of-arms and a knight's helm above a motto on the smaller pieces, the detachable oval baskets with removable cut-glass liners similarly pierced and fluted and with similar medallion and trophy, with two ram's heads and drop-ring handles, marked under bases of stands and baskets

Lot Essay

The arms on the smaller baskets are those of Waller with Howe in pretence, as borne by Sir Jonathan Wathen Waller (1769-1853), 1st Baronet, who married as his second wife in 1812, Sophia Charlotte, Baroness Howe in her own right. Sir Jonathan was created baronet on May 30,1815, and was groom of the bedchamber to William IV.
