The arms are those of Dalrymple quartering those of Hamilton and Fletcher, for John Hamilton-Dalrymple-MacGill, 5th Bt., born in 1771. He succeeded his father in 1810 and his kinsman the 7th Earl of Stair as 8th Earl of Stair in 1840.
