A FOUR-CASE LACQUER INRO
edo period (19th century) signed shokasai
Of oval section decorated in gold hiramaki-e, hirame, kirigane and togidashi, mother-of-pearl and metal inlay on a kinji ground with a Chinese scholar seated at his writing desk on a straw mat before a circular cartouche of a landscape of mountains and a stream, the reverse with a shakudo and gilded inlaid Chinese boy in a larger version of the same landscape, interior cases nashiji; fitted with an ivory netsuke formed as a lotus leaf applied with a gilt metal tortoise in the center and with a gilt-metal ojime modelled as a conch shell
