Lot Essay

Bando Mitsugoro III (1733-1831) was one of the most popular actors of the time and was also a skilled dancer. He specialized in henge mono (transformation pieces) and in dance plays involving quick changes of costume and role. In this print, he is in the dance role that he performed at the Ichimuraza theater in 3/1811.
