Gregory Wittkopp, Saarinen House and Garden, A Total Work of Art, p. 95, pl. 68 for a photograph of the studio and studio alcove, viewed from the living room, which illustrates a smoking table with a slightly varied geometric motif and similarly stepped legs, designed by Saarinen and executed by Berglund, in 1931. Berglund was the resident cabinetmaker from 1929-1932 in the Cranbrook Academy's Arts & Crafts Studios.
Saarinen designed three of these occasional tables, one for his house, a second one which is in a private collection, and this light colored table for Zolton and Dorothy Sepeshy. At that time, Zoltan Sepeshy was the head of the Academy's Painting Department and, later, succeeded Saarinen as President of the Academy.
