In a letter dated October 22, 1993, Fred G. Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague, states that the present painting is by '...an artist strongly influenced by him [d'Hondecoeter], probably working in his vicinity and producing a quality quite close to that of the master'.
