Lot Essay

This portrait, said to be of the wife of the Comte Jules de Polignac, is very similar in format and handling to Danloux's portrait of Madame Marquise de La Suze (reproduced in R. de Portalis, Henri-Pierre Danloux, 1910, p. 168). Both paintings seem to date from the period immediately preceding Danloux's 1792 departure for England.
