Lot Essay

Rufino Tamayo was hired in 1929 as an instructor in the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Mexico City . It was during this period that he met Mara Izquierdo, who later became his lover. Tamayo painted several portraits of Mara and used her as model for a few of his paintings.
