Alfredo Hlito studed at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires (1938-42), developing in his early work a style reminiscent of the abstract constructions of Joaqun Torres-Garca. Soon after, Hlito joined the Asociacin Arte Concreto-Invencin, participating both in the exhibitions of the group and in the publishing of the manifesto, while developing an abstract style of pure form and color. In the work of this period, Hlito explores the relation of pattern, movement and space with colored lines against white backgrounds. Through the years his compositions became more atmospheric and less rigorous. However, his artistic exploration remained faithful to the possibilities of form, space and color on a bi-dimensional support. The present painting is one of the last works executed in Mexico, where the artist lived from 1964-1973.
