A NEAR EASTERN STONE BOAR'S HEAD PROTOME
circa late 3rd-early 2nd millennium b.c.
Probably from Afghanistan, of black stone with irregular orange and white inclusions, the hollowed protome with drilled eyes, a tapering porcine snout ending in a thickened roll, a groove for the mouth, with drilled areas with raised surrounds for the possible addition of tusks, the nostrils drilled, with a recessed rim and two perforations above for attachment
