The faience workshops of the New Kingdom are often characterized by a mimetic tendency to render objects in faience that would have been made in other media. This imitation elliptical basket, with its detachable lid, belongs to this tradition. The craftsman has successfully captured the effect of the wicker in the rendering of the reed and split straw coils.
