AN ATTIC RED-FIGURE KYLIX

The tondo and the exterior with school boys, the youth within the tondo standing frontally, his head in profile to the left, wearing a mantle over his left shoulder, holding a flute case in his left hand, a diptych with stylus and a bag for astragaloi (knucklebones or gaming pieces) in his right hand, enclosed within a border of meander with saltire squares, both sides of the exterior with three youths, each similarly clad, one side with two youths holding flute cases on either side of a youth with a diptych and bag, the other side with one holding a flute case, one with a diptych and bag, and one with a diptych, a kalos inscription between the two to the left, a palmette with tendrils below each handle, ivy leaves descending from the rim on either side of the handle, an ancient repair re-joining the bowl to the stem
