The oval stone deeply engraved with a bearded comic mask, the grimacing face fringed with an unruly beard, the open mouth revealing the upper row of teeth, inscribed below CKY presumably the signature of the artist, mounted in a later European gold ring with a band of black enamel on the bezel

The signature on this gem, CKY is likely an abbreviation for Skylax. His signature is found on three other gems, one depicting a satyr, one depicting Herakles playing a kithara, and one a portrait of the Emperor Claudius.
