La Vachre (Young Peasant Woman and Cow)

This gouache is similar to another gouache of this subject (L.R. Pissarro and L. Venturi, no. 1470), in which the head of the cow is turned slightly toward the young woman, whose hat is perhaps her Sunday best. This gouache is in turn related to an oil painting done in 1892 (L.R. Pissarro and L. Venturi, no. 823).
