Lot Essay

In June 1860, on the recommendation of Corot, Daubigny purchased property at Auvers-sur-Oise. Cavalier dans une gorge was one of the five paintings that Corot executed between 1865 and 1868 to decorate the entrance of Daubigny's house.

Martin Dieterle has examined and confirmed the authenticity of this painting.
