Contemporary calf, spine gilt (joints cracked, worn, later spine labels). Provenance: George Bell (early signatures deleted in each volume); Myddelton (engraved armorial bookplate in each volume); H. Hinckley (signature in second volume and his ink deletion of owner's name on previous bookplate).

FIRST EDITION of Bonet's "greatest work and ... the foundation upon which Morgagni based his De sedibus. The first edition appeared after he had been in practice over thirty years; it contains references to more than 400 writers and is based on some 3,000 autopsies. He includes diseases from ancient to contemporary times with emphasis on the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries" (Heirs of Hippocrates).
