Contemporary red goatskin elaborately gilt, sides tooled with an outer border of semi-circles, gilt panel with decoration in each corner and lozenge-shaped centre-piece of strawberry volutes and flowers, spine in six compartments gilt, edges gilt (head of spine and joints professionally repaired). FIRST EDITION. Charleton was an unusually gifted physician, zoologist, and archeologist who studied physics, theology, and natural history. He was one of the founders of the Royal Society and later served as it's president. The above is the first English textbook on physiology based on mechanical philosophy.
