Gaultier, folding engraved plate in Vol. 2 (some tears repaired on verso). (Some worming in both volumes, mostly marginal, occasional browning and minor spotting). Contemporary Dutch vellum with overlapping edges.
Provenance: Dr. Nicolaus Tulp (1593-1674), anatomy teacher and physician of Amsterdam (see lot 831), celebrated in Rembrandt's masterpiece, "The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaus Tulp" (inscription on front free endpaper in each volume: "Nicolai Tulpii" and motto "Deo frui finis hominis"); Henry le Court (his bibliographical notes on the front free endpaper in Vol. 1, laid in sheet of notes, and bookplate in each volume).

Second collected edition in Latin. "This collection contains du Laurens's Historia anatomica, De crisibus, De strumis, and his tracts on eye diseases, melancholy and other mental afflictions, old age, catarrh, arthritis, elephantiasis and venereal disease" (Norman). The engraved plate in the second volume shows Henri IV bestowing the "royal touch" on a scrofula victim. This copy contains the variant Durand imprint on title-pages; the engraved title lists Durand among the four booksellers who published the work. AN INTERESTING ASSOCIATION COPY.
