It dominated the study of the functions of a complex variable throughout the nineteenth century.

Two issues of this work exist, with no priority established. The Norman copy contains 277 numbered pages and forms a separate publication, whereas the other issue contains 276 numbered pages and comprises Vol. III of the ninth cahier of the Journal de l'cole Polytechnique.
An interesting association copy given by Lagrange, then teaching analysis at the cole Polytechnique, to one of Napoleon's distinguished generals of the division of engineers. PRESENTATION COPIES BY LAGRANGE ARE RARE. Riccardi I(2), 3; Norman 1258.
